About

Greetings!

My name is David Chambers and I'm a designer and web developer based in Auckland, New Zealand.

I graduated from Elam School of Fine Arts in 2001 with a BFA, having majored in graphic design. I spent the following two or three months working as a designer at Insight Creative before accepting a position at a company then known as Maxum. While at Maxum, my job description changed several times before I was made a full-time member of the web development team. This team was responsible for the code behind Maxum's automated publishing system, which enabled the creation of print-ready PDF files via an online interface. I left Maxum last year to undertake a Graduate Diploma in Computer and Information Sciences at AUT; I recently completed this degree.

I am passionate about web standards, accessibility, and usability, and enjoy creating accessible, standards-compliant websites that provide rewarding experiences for users. The languages at which I'm highly proficient are CSS, PHP, and XHTML, and I'm comfortable working with MySQL. Recently I've been working a great deal with the JavaScript framework Prototype – I appreciate the dynamism that JavaScript facilitates. I've also been familiarizing myself with Python and the Django framework.

I am excited about the possibilities offered by CSS3 and HTML5, and make use of each in appropriate settings.

I'm an ardent Mac user, and love to watch TED talks when I'm not writing code. I plan to design a typeface before turning 50 (in 2034).
